As reported on 28 June 2016, the Jubek State Basketball Association recently held their Manute Bol Tournament for Peace and Reconciliation.In the article, it was mentioned that, LonAgro Southern Sudan assisted the organisers take delivery of uniforms and equipment which was donated by UK Basketball. These uniforms were then distributed to basketball clubs within Juba and some outside of the state.Apart from assisting with the transportation, LonAgro South Sudan also assisted the event organisers gain further sponsors and sponsorship for the event. As a sign of appreciation for the work and effort put in by LonAgro South Sudan, Country Manager Brett Scott was invited to the finals of the tournament.The finals were an action filled day where two local teams; Hilal and Black Stars battled it out on the court with Hilal taking the trophy in the end. The event also played host to a large contingent of delegates including the Minster of Education Youth and Sports, and the Deputy Ministers from each of the country’s states.Following on from the day’s on court action was the official prize giving ceremony. It was during this ceremony that Mr. Scott was asked to speak on behalf of LonAgro and Lonrho. As a token of gratitude, Mr. Scott was presented with a certificate of Appreciation from the Jubek State Basketball Association.
LonAgro Assists at the Manute Bol TournamentOn 19 June, LonAgro Southern Sudan Country Manager; Brett Scott attended the opening of the Manute Bol Tournament for Peace and Reconciliation.The event is a youth basketball tournament aimed at promoting the sport and peace within the country, and it is named after the late Manute Bol. Bol was a South Sudanese basketball player who played professionally in the NBA in the United States, and contributed to the sport's growth in his homeland.As part of the preparation for the event, UK Basketball donated 250 shirts, 200 basketballs and numerous training items. Brett together with Lonrho Machinery Group Managing Director; Reinhardt van Zyl were asked if they could assist in getting the items shipped from the UK to Southern Sudan. Unfortunately this was a last minute request, but Brett together with DHL arranged to have the items shipped from the UK in two days.Brett also approached Jeble Lodge asking if they could assist the tournament organisers in any way. The lodge responded to the request by kindly donating fuel to run the event's generators. Given that the day's event on the 19th was the tournament's official opening, spectators were also treated to performances by local musicians, together with the fast paced basketball action on the court.The finals of the tournament will take place on 30 June and representatives from LonAgro Southern Sudan will be in attendance.
Lonrho MES Chief Finance & Operating Officer Reinhardt van Zyl, and MES HR Manager Aurélie Tyack, together with LonAgro South Sudan staff recently celebrated the official opening of LonAgro South Sudan's brand new dealership. Around 50 guests attended the event which included Political leaders, corporate companies, major customers, suppliers and John Deere representatives. The event was also covered by national TV and featured on the news the following night.LonAgro South Sudan also used the opportunity to 'graduate' the level 4 technicians – amazingly there are now 3. You will recall that James Kazini recently qualified as a level 4 service technician, and since then another 2 have qualified to this level. This means that in the entire Sub Saharan (excl.
